Stephen R. Poland co-founded 1×1 Media, a publisher of tools, templates, and how-to guides for startup founders and entrepreneurs. Steve has worked with hundreds of founders and entrepreneurs, mentoring them on startup mechanics, funding plans, pitch decks, financial models, and due diligence documentation for the angel funding process. Much of Steve’s work involves helping founders make their startups investor ready. Steve is also the creator and author of the popular Founder’s Pocket Guide book series.
Over the course of Steve’s startup journey, he has founded four startups as well as launching a successful intrepreneurship venture focused on digital music and ondemand manufacturing services. This venture provided music encoding and digital asset management services to the music and audio book markets, with notable client companies including Apple, Random House, and BMG Music.
Prior to his current work, Steve served as the Director of Technology Commercialization for Technology 2020 based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In that role, he helped startup founders with product development strategy, funding roadmaps, and financial modeling. His clients represented industry segments ranging from SaaS and medical devices to consumer products and biotechnology.
Prior to his entrepreneurial work, Steve held key positions in the corporate world, including leadership and management positions with Walt Disney Interactive, Disney Consumer Products, Macmillan Publishing, and Bertelsmann AG.
Steve enjoys writing and speaking on a variety of topics, such as startup fundraising, business growth strategy, entrepreneurship, and digital publishing.
Steve lives with his wife and 1×1 Media Co-Founder Lisa A. Bucki, and three dogs in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, North Carolina.
