Mark Sorrells is the Senior Vice President for the Golden LEAF Foundation. He joined the Foundation in May of 2001 as Vice President of Programs. In his current position, Mark serves as the Chief Operating Officer assisting the President with day-to-day operations. Additionally, he has served as lead project manager for several special initiatives of the Golden LEAF Board of Directors including the Essential Skills in Advanced Manufacturing, Bio-Manufacturing Workforce Training Initiative, the Aerospace Manufacturing Training Program, the NC Digital Learning Technology Initiative, and STEM grant programs. Previous employment included working as the executive director for a statewide non-profit and teaching in the NC Community College System.
Mark is a board member for the NC Alliance for School Leadership Development and previously served on several state level boards and commissions including serving as Chair of the Education Funders Committee for the NC Network of Grantmakers, a member of the Governor’s Education Transformation Commission, and the NC Commission on Workforce Development. He earned his undergraduate and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Tennessee and is currently enrolled in the Educational Leadership Doctorate program at East Carolina University. He is a 1999 – 2001 graduate of the Wildacres Leadership Initiative.
